About Idin

In his debut album, "The Voice", the young 19 year old Persian-American artist, Idin, merges Middle Eastern melodies and words along with Western influenced jazz, trance, and pop sounds to create an energized, powerful musical experience all of his own. Idin uses his phenomenal "Voice" as more than just a sound, but as an instrument unto itself that seamlessly blends the different musical influences to produce what is sure to develop into an entirely new genre of music. Idin is clearly the new "Voice" of his generation.

For Idin, music is not just something to listen to......"I don't just listen to a song, I breathe it, I live it. Music is my life energy and inspiration. Some people cry when they're sad, some people go out and run when they're angry; I sing, I listen to music, I write lyrics and I create sounds." -Idin

His passion and intensity can be heard in songs such as "Why Am I So Sad?", where he tackles the timeless questions of self-awareness and confidence and external pressures and expectations. Clearly these emotions and doubts are obstacles that individuals from all age groups and sexes can identify with. By using the backdrop of an upbeat trance sound, "...I am trying to create a sound that incorporates the tumultuous feelings raging within me...anger, sadness, fear and finally triumph are all there." -Idin

Although most young people (and old alike) have self doubt and questions, Idin has always been certain of one thing; he loves to sing and create music. When Avang Music gave Idin the chance to work on his own original album in 2003, Idin relished the opportunity. His love of all music, especially trance, pop, jazz, and even classical and hip hop are all reflected in his debut album. Born in the U.S., Idin is still strongly influenced by his Persian heritage and Middle Eastern melodies, which is prominent in the music on this album. In his effort to achieve his musical vision of an upbeat sound with international flavor, Idin worked with talented young composers such as Farzin Farhadi and innovative arrangers such as Roma Kanyan.

Idin took his key instrument, his "Voice", and decided to begin to lay a foundation of sound. Onto that foundation he added classical violins and Middle Eastern percussion with a trance back beat and created "Ballare". East meets the sexy jazz sounds of the West in songs like "Seda" and "Setareh". The compelling force and originality of this music not only residing in the diverse musical influences, but in the way Idin uses his "Voice" to bridge the two worlds through harmony of sound, creating a musical experience that will blow away the listener.

"I am proud of my work on this album. I feel that I have successfully blended the sounds I love with the full range of my voice to create music that is real and intense. Music that represents who I've been, who I am, and who I'd like to become. My music may not be for anyone, or it might be for everyone...time will tell." -Idin

Interview

Q: Tell us about your background. Where were you born, how old etc.?

A: I was born in Anahiem, Ca U.S.A., and I am 19 years old. Although I grew up in the United States, Farsi has always been the language spoken at home. From a very young age my parents instilled in both my older sister and I a strong passion for our persian heritage.

Q: How did you start your career? What did you do before you released your album?

A: I have been singing and performing ever since I was a child. At first everyone thought it was just a phase, but once I began competeing in different vocal competions in the U.S., around the age of 10, and began to get recognition my passion for the industry increased a thousand times and my friends and family realized, as I did, that music and singing would be my destiny. My parents got me a vocal coach and I also began taking piano lessons. I eventually created a demo of my voice, which my parents began sending to different Music companies, one of which happened to be Cirque du Soleil. It was always important for me to learn and understand all the different styles of music out there, such as classical and jazz and learn all the different vocal techniques. The beauty came later as I got older, around 15, when after all the vocal coaching etc. I was able to use techniques that I had learned from classical and jazz and mix all that with my passion to sing Middle Eastern style melodies and, eventually, creating my own vocal style, which can be heard on my album "The Voice". It was my vocal styling that caught the attention of companies such as Cirque du Soleil and led me to work with them for a short time before deciding to release my own solo album.

Q: What made you a singer? Why are you interested in this career?

A: Singing always came naturally to me, it wasn't something that I just decided to do one day. Singing for me has always been an escape from reality and a way to find peace within myself. I find pleasure in simply singing. Whether it's in my room alone or in front of a packed arena. I think it's a wonderful thing when a singer is able to share his/her own feelings and voice with others and impact the listener's emotions.

Q: What do you think of your album? What were the influences on your album? Is it more Western or did any Persian singer have an influence on your musical style/songs?

A: I am proud of my work on this album. I feel that I have successfully blended the sounds I love with the full range of my voice to create music that is real and intense. I'm influenced by everything. All styles of music from around the world interest me; from classical music to trance, from hip hop to jazz, my goal is to simply create music that all ages and cultures can listen to and enjoy. My music does have a Western flavor yet it still has that exotic Middle Eastern touch, and I thank and respect all the Persian singers who have helped keep Iran's music alive and allowed young singers like myself, with a new approach to Persian music, to express ourselves and take Persian music to a whole new generation.

Q: With whom did you work with for the preparation of this album?

A: From the start of this album, it was clear to me what type of sound I wanted. I was blessed to work with an amazing group of people that were very talented in order to acheive my vision. My team was incredible, we all clicked very well and understood one another. To achieve my musical vision of an upbeat sound with international flavor, I worked with talented young composers such as Farzin Farhadi and innovative arrangers such as Roma Kanyan. Along with amazing lyricists such as Mahin Abadani who clearly has brought an entirely new style of lyrics to the Persian scene. And of course Armin Hashemi and my amazing label, Avang Music, who have been with me every step of the way.

Q: What in general are your musical tastes? What do you listen to (Persian or Foreigner singers/groups)?

A: Generally, I love to listen to music that has a Middle Eastern touch. But I love trance, hip hop and pop. I listen to everything, all the Persian singers are awesome in their own way so I enjoy them all very much. I also love and enjoy listening to music from Cirque du Soleil, European singers such as Francesca Gagnon, and pop singers such as Christina Aguilera. It all has to do with my mood.

Q: Is there anything else that you would like to tell to the viewers of eWorld Records and eshgheiran.com website?

A: I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read this interview, and I truly hope that you all enjoy the album. I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you, so please feel free to visit my website at www.idinmusic.com and drop me a note.
